Elara Capital’s preview sees aggregate discretionary retail revenue up 11.8% year on year in Q2 FY27, but apparel revenue may fall 3.8% as Navratri shifts entirely into the December quarter while value chains and footwear stay strong.

On 10 October 2026, brokerage Elara Capital published a preview of Indian consumer discretionary earnings for the quarter ended September 2026. It expects aggregate listed retail revenue to rise 11.8% year on year and sector EBITDA to grow 12.7%. The headline masks a calendar split: Navratri began in late September in FY26 but falls entirely in October this year, after the Shraddh period delayed purchases. Elara estimates apparel revenue may shrink 3.8% with EBITDA down 5%, while value formats and footwear accelerate.
Apparel chains book festive demand when shoppers buy, not when malls decorate. When the festival moves a month, September prints look empty even if October tills are busy. Bridal and ethnic names such as Vedant Fashions and Go Fashion show weak same-store sales in the preview, while Vishal Mega Mart is still opening stores and posting mid-teens revenue growth. Footwear benefits from premiumisation: Metro Brands and Campus Activewear show double-digit profit gains in the estimates, with Bata India lifting earnings on tighter discounting. Cotton inflation still pinches innerwear margins even as volumes recover.
If you follow retail stocks, treat September-quarter apparel misses as partly a diary effect, not only a demand collapse. Wait for October same-store updates before calling a trend. As a shopper, deals may cluster later in the season than last year, which can help if you delayed big ticket buys. For the wider economy, value retail and footwear holding up while ethnic apparel pauses is another sign that middle India is still spending, but choosing formats and categories carefully.
